Honors Algebra Gets Failing Grade When it Comes to Providing Advanced Math Education

Through the years, we have seen plenty of students with good math grades come to us with significant gaps in their math skills and abilities. In fact, we have built an entire business around providing a rigorous, systematic curriculum that addresses these gaps. But it’s still shocking to see how many high school students in advanced math classes are scoring poorly on standardized tests. This is just further evidence of how badly our educational system is failing our children. According to this article in USA Today, even high school students enrolled in honors algebra classes aren’t getting the thorough math education one might expect. The article points to the lack of truth in labeling for high school mathematics classes and asserts that although more students are taking honors math classes these days, fewer students are actually getting the advanced math education they were promised.   http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/03/12/algebra-courses-honors/1978801/
